Fram Ultra XG6607 Cut Open

Below are some pictures from a filter dissection that I posted over at BITOG. I think this is the most appropriate forum, if not please relocate accordingly. I have two more C&P's as well (PureOne and Mazda) but due to having them on Photobucket I no longer have access to them without paying for a premium account. If anyone has a way around that, please let me know so I can get them over to Imgur instead.

The Fram Ultra XG6607 held up beautifully, I've had it sitting for 8 days and when the shell was cracked with the filter cutter, a few ounces spilled out showing that the ADBV was still doing it's job very well. No tears, no funny business, just a well built filter. Filter was in service for 9,829 miles and a little over 6 months.

Thank you for posting this. I wonder if Mazda filter has similar construction? And which Mazda filter have you cut-opened, Japanese or made in Thailand?

The Mazda filter was the stock PE01 14 302A. Construction is not the same as compared to the Fram Ultra. The Mazda has no ADBV, a different bypass valve and a slightly larger media surface. It too is a very well built filter. If I'm amble to get those pictures off Photobucket I will post them here.

That's what I thought. Skyactiv engine doesn't need ADBV, as it is positioned vertically, so Mazda used a bit more filter media instead.
PE01 is a Japanese filter, which was apparently superseded by 1WPE filter, made in Thailand. It looks different and is lighter. Probably has different internals, and less media.
