Hello, This is my first post here I've been lurking some here and there. I bought a P5 (auto) in January as my first car and it's in pretty good shape.

I want to replace the Cold air intake filter though, but I can't seem to find one that matches the one that it is currently installed. IF you all can identify it that would be great.

I don't know what that sensor is that is sticking out of it, but I've taken it off before and it looks like the previous owner just cut a hole in the filter and jammed it in.

Hi welcome to the forum, congrats on your purchase [emoji41]

So looks like they ( previous owner ) just hacked in the mass air pressure sensor into the filter. You should have a tube with a gromit to seat the sensor.

Cheapest kit is like $40

The filters are cleanable but with the hole shown I would replace the filter as well, the one pictured I installed in a buddies protege yesterday ( ridiculously large lol ).

Good luck ! Happy hunting.

Could this cause a check engine light? I've been getting some weird codes for my o2 sensors I replaced Bank 1, Sensor 1, but then I got a code for the downstream. Then I got a code for something else, but that went away.

This one is your IAT (input air temperature)...

This one is your MAF sensor (mass air flow)
(the MAP sensor is on the passenger side near the strut bar)

It's possible that you could throw codes with that crappy filter.

Get the whole kit like horseflesh mentioned.

The MAF is really sensitive and delicate and can throw codes.

See what codes you get, if any, after replacing the whole intake... That stuff needs replacing anyway.

Clean your IAT and MAF sensor with MAF cleaner while your at it.

Your car needs to know the amount of air and it's temperature to run properly.
