My wife has had her 2013 CX-5 2.0 Skyactiv AT since new and has just under 70k miles, and except for a AT replacement about 3 years ago dur to an output bearing failure, has not given us any issues.
Last weekend she was driving in daylight when the traction control, tire pressure light and check engine light came on all at the same time. At the same time the engine began bogging and she could barely maintain speed. After pulling over, stopping and restarting the car she travelled another 20 miles or so without issue. That night she drove the CX-5 again and this time the same thing occurred with the 3 warning light and loss of power but after stopping and restarting the car now she could only get a few feet before the problem happened again. After 3 times she called AAA to have the car towed home.
I drove the car around the next morning and noticed that while I wasnt getting the 3 lights at first the engine would sputter occasionally while steady state driving or mild acceleration. After a few miles I got the lights and loss of power. Restarting the car helped for about a mile then the same thing. Restarting got it home.
I searched Google and found numerous threads with somewhat similar issues but did not find a resolution yet that worked or made sense. This one was close, including the battery issue.

I replaced the battery and havent been able to replicate the 3 lights issue but the stumbling and hesitation still remain sometimes with an occasional backfire-through-the-intake soundworse when its colder outside but independent of the engine temp.
Hoping it was the same issue I had on 2 of the familys 2005 Mazda3s after a battery replacement I removed and cleaned the throttle body but nope, no change in the sputtering issue.
After replacing the battery I was hoping the ECU still had any codes captured but an OBDII reader showed no stored codes.
Something that may or may not be related is that I the transmission seems to hang longer than it did in the past when you downshift to pass. It hangs in the lower gear even after you let up on the throttle and engine brakes the car for a few seconds then upshifts to a higher gear. This started a few months ago before this issue but remains.
Im hoping someone else has experienced this and had a fix or has suggestions on what to check next.
Thank you!
