2017 CX-5 Wrench Maintenance Reminder in Dash

In my case the indicator says "service due"....but I had the service indicator off. I was only using the tire rotation and oil change reminder in flexible setting. Now I'm wondering if I even needed to do the oil change. I just assumed when I saw the wrench it was for the oil change. I didn't realize the "service due" was a separate warning. Adding to the confusion, the warning doesnt come up every time you start the car. It can be fine for a few days and then reappear. Last night in order to try and fix it i enabled the "service" reminder....reset it....then turned it off again. I also re-re-re-re-re reset the oil life monitor for good measure. Does anyone know for sure if there is a TSB for the OLM for the 2017 CX-5's? I dont want to leave the car with the dealer all day only to fin out they have less of a clue than we do here. I may just turn it all off and go back to manual record keeping! I sent an oil sample to Blackstone. I dont plan to do so all the time but wanted to know how the oil looks after 9 months and 5600 miles. That will give me an indicator of how far I can push That will give me an indicator of how far I can push it.
Based on another recent thread:

'Oil change due' vs. 'Service Due'

for Gen-2 CX-5, any of the Scheduled、Tire Rotation and Oil Change dues should display Service Due in 621 mi. notification and then wrench indicator with Scheduled maintenance due、Tire rotation due or Oil change due comes up when applicable, if you have those notifications set up accordingly. So verify which maintenance item caused your notification first based on the wrench indicator and the associated message.

So I had some time today and I decided to pop over to the dealer with my 10 month old, 5700 mile 2017 Mazda CX-5 to have them look over my "wrench" issue. Long story short, the dealer told me that they would not look at the car without a diagnostic charge unless I could provide receipts for the oil....for the oil change I did myself. I have receipts for the filters....but not with me at the time. He then proceeded to change the Oil life monitor from Flexible to Fixed .....perform a reset....then put it back to flexible. Lets see if this helps. He pretty much minimized the whole issue saying the maintenance reminder is nothing more than alarm clock...and that my car requires an oil change every 6000 miles....not the 7500 I had my fixed interval set at. What a load of crap. Firstly Im sure if I was going there for service, he would have been telling me that "alarm clock" needed to be followed as if the warnings it flashed were from the mouth of God! Not so much if I do my own oil changes. THIS is precisely why I try and avoid the dealer at all costs. Most are nothing more that charlatans, grifters and snake oil salesmen. FWIW...I did oil analysis on my first change at 5566 miles and the analysis showed I could easily have gone to 7500....Im willing to bet more!

Maybe next time try an independent mechanic who specialises in Mazdas

But a customer should not have to do that on a car that is not behaving as the manual says it should - especially in the warranty period, and at low mileage.

The dealer has a contract with Mazda to service Mazda vehicles and sometimes it includes warranty claims that they don't get reimbursed for - customer has to jump start car and brings car to dealer thinking battery is bad - customer just left lights on. The dealer is going to test the battery and maybe not get paid for it if no fault found.

As a consumer i would be angry if i had to go to an independent dealer to get this fixed - even if it was my stupidity. Maybe the independent wants future business and will just help me out, but they are not obligated to do so.

In this case the service manager should have taken the appointment, written it up so it was documented, and then evaluated and fixed the issue. What good is a warranty if you have to go to a 3rd party.

+1
at any time under warranty

No you shouldn't but sometimes you have to if Mazda is giving you the run around.

You can always complain to Mazda USA HQ.

There is also the other option of going to another Mazda service centre

All those are good options. Foing to an independent is not. Not when under warranty.

Up to the person I guess. Just a suggestion if Mazda for what ever reason doesn't want to play ball

I guess. I have never had a problem getting warranty service. I have had to switch dealers or escalate to regional managers, but never had to pay for warranty service. Especially i have never had to pay for a basic diagnostic, in or out of warranty.

I did with one dealer's service centre but with the current one I use (before I sold my 6) I have no issues what so ever

OK, so I had the wrench thingy come up on my car (2107 Mazda 6, same electronics as the CX-5), and it was the tire rotation setting that triggered it.
I think I got it reset, but what I was wondering is: what does that "dashboard illumination knob" do? I did the 7 second thing, and nothing happened.
I also can't find anything in the user manual that tells me what it's for. Seems totally useless.
I also don't get what this flexible vs. fixed stuff means. I don't see it in my infotainment screens.
Thanks.

Did you RTM?

Yes, I RTM, thankyou.
What I didn't do what memorize TFM, which by your response, maybe I should have.
It's over an inch thick, and not everything can be found in 5 seconds or less.
Sorry I asked for your help, dickhead.

I answered your question. You're welcome.

Sorry the manual is such a challenge for you. It's got something called an index. It's there in the back. No memorization required.
