Clutch choices - dismissing OEM, Stage1 ACT vs Exedy and 3rd OE equivalents

Hi,

In a week I have booked some lift time in a friend's garage, ready to order parts for clutch replacement
Own a 2006 Mazda5 2.3l 5spd (posting here since clutch, trans, engine is the same and M3 section is more active, likely has more clutch opinions)

  • Sifting through the forum it becomes apparent that the Mazda OEM clutch is not the best choice.
  • The M5 is mainly stock but heavier than a M3, so more load on the clutch.
  • It's also a daily driver. I'm fine with a somewhat stiffer clutch pedal, my foot just falls through the floor when I step on it (compared to other, older cars I have).
  • I'm not a slow driver but often shift once torque allows, which can put stress on a clutch.

Since I save on labor, I could splurge and buy a Stage1 clutch kit for ~$300 from ACT (ZM3-HDMM), or Exedy (10809).
That said, there are also some name-brand 3rd party Stage0 clutch kits and I do not find too much feedback on them (Exedy, Sachs, etc.)
... if there is consensus on a decent Stage0 clutch, sure, I'll save some money and pay $150-200.

Thanks for all tips and feedback.
