On a 2001 Protege with a 1.6L engine, what is the name of the hose that connects from the edge of the drivers side of the valve cover, comes out a couple of inches and then goes back and connects to the air cleaner intake duct hose? If that hose is disconnected or leaky, what issues would that cause? Thanks.

thats a vacuum line for your PCV system (positive crankcase ventilation)

not the end of the world if it is disconnected/leaking but an important part of your engine regardless and it will cause issues over the long-run if it remains leaking or disconnected. you can tape up the leak if you want to, but I recommend replacing this vacuum line.

The manual refers to it as the positive crankcase ventilation hose. If you chose not to replace the hose you may wish to cap it with a breather filter as you don't want to suck dirt from your engine bay into the engine.
