Cargo Illumination LED

:
2016.5 Mazda CX 5 Grand Touring W/ Tech PKG
Due to the poor cargo lighting in the cargo area of the CX 5, and after looking at deepfriedsushi outstanding write up seen here in this link..

https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/sho...D-Strips-in-CX5-Cargo-Area&highlight=lighting

I wanted to do the same but with some mini LED lights.. I followed his wiring as he did a good job.. I used a four wire in one sleeve 18awg to run my wires through the body and it made getting past the rubber boot easier.. Also due to the way I wanted to wire up the switch, I used the Red/Black for the LED lights utilizing wire bridges in a series configuration, and the Green/White for the push button switch LED ring light drawing power from the cargo light. (still working that connection out.)

Parts I used:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36107466260/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="NcQh"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4440/36107466260_8510cde629_b.jpg" width="858" height="600" alt="NcQh"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Placement of the four LED lights:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36107467540/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2959"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4337/36107467540_e6dbe367e8_h.jpg" width="1200" height="1600" alt="IMG_2959"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

With them turned on with only 17 lumens each LED, I was surprise its not harsh at all.. The two up put illuminate the ground and entry to the cargo are, while the two inside shine towards the floor and rear seat backs.

Led Light placement Upper Right side in the lift gate: same for the Left side too:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36504087545/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2977"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4432/36504087545_6f252e7bd8_h.jpg" width="1600" height="1200" alt="IMG_2977"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Lower Left side facing inwards to the floor area and seats:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36107467310/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2976"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4402/36107467310_06b2d8e73c_h.jpg" width="1600" height="1200" alt="IMG_2976"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Lower Right Side with the 12v where I connected in for power and the push button switch. I did not want then to come on all the time, just when I needed them. (just My preference..) The button will light up blue and I am still researching how to connect it to the cargo dome light for power.. I want it to come on with the dome light (the blue ring) giving the option to turn the lights on or not. On hind site I might have looked more into the mercury switch as well... still might so when the door opens the mercury switch turns on the light.. but for now.. I'm happy, and that's good enough for me..

Where I bought the LED's at - https://www.oznium.com/led-bolt

Very nice! They should come like that from the factory. In the '17, we only get a light in the liftgate, but in some countries it is an option to get lights on the left and right side as well.

I made the light ledbar under the bar of the trunk cover by making connections in the bar and the holder on the left site..

Cool Idea, why didn't you just power them off the light that was already back there so they turn on when ever you open the hatch?

17 lumens is just the right amount of light, I have 17 lumens in my map lights without being blinding, but bright enough to light the area and factory-looking.

I will give this a thumbs up (2thumbs)

In another car I had, I used a 6" (white) cold cathode light tube (CCLT), like the kind that are used in computer towers, tucked under the shelf that held the hard hatch cover. I think the site was elwirepros under their "Automotive and Motorcycle Kits".

In hindsight, I should have either gone with the dual 6" or single 12" for better illumination.

Has anyone purchased and installed this kit yet?

I did and can give an update on installation once I have the time to do it.

Also FYI I actually requested they make the part available on their site by using their contact page https://www.nengun.com/enquiry/ and the option "I'm looking for a part not listed on the website"

The turnaround was pretty quick as they listed the part within a week

If you're looking for other OEM parts not available in NA you can look at the JP accessories PDF http://www2.mazda.co.jp/accessories/info_lib/pdf/cx-5_1612.pdf

It looks like there's another part: C830-V1-620E that they sell in Europe as an OEM accessory for the cargo illumination. You can buy it on eBay: https://www.ebay.com (commissions earned)

Do you know if this straight installs into US models without any modifications? I'm looking for better cargo area lighting.

*edit looks like it won't fit 2018's after checking the compatibility chart.

My posted picture does but afraid it's only for Australian vehicles as I believe they don't ship overseas

Thanks for the wireup, has just finished wiring my Cx-5, as a heads up for users looking to do the same, I would advise using the 4 strand wire and doing a parallel led hookup with 3 out of the 4 outgoing wires used to hook up the farther leds on the top right, top left and lower left and the last wire to return to ground. The reason I decided to do a parallel hookup instead of the series version by op is due to the fact that in series, the leds would have a decay factor for each additional led and output varying lumens. Also for the final note, if I had to do it again, I definitely would have opted for a larger push switch, the 16mm is just an odd size and even with smaller fingers you will have a hard time depressing the switch all the way.

Yes, I cut/drilled into the plastic.. before I did I checked the price of replacement if I messed it up..
