Cargo Illumination (re - posting)

:
2016.5 Mazda CX 5 Grand Touring W/ Tech PKG
Due to the poor cargo lighting in the cargo area of the CX 5, and after looking at “deepfriedsushi” outstanding write up seen here in this link..

https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/sho...D-Strips-in-CX5-Cargo-Area&highlight=lighting

I wanted to do the same but with some mini LED lights.. I followed his wiring as he did a good job.. I used a four wire in one sleeve 18awg to run my wires through the body and it made getting past the rubber boot easier.. Also due to the way I wanted to wire up the switch, I used the Red/Black for the LED lights utilizing wire bridges in a series configuration, and the Green/White for the push button switch LED ring light drawing power from the cargo light. (still working that connection out.)

Parts I used:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36107466260/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="NcQh"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4440/36107466260_8510cde629_b.jpg" width="858" height="600" alt="NcQh"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Placement of the four LED lights:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36107467540/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2959"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4337/36107467540_e6dbe367e8_h.jpg" width="1200" height="1600" alt="IMG_2959"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

With them turned on with only 17 lumens each LED, I was surprise its not harsh at all.. The two up put illuminate the ground and entry to the cargo are, while the two inside shine towards the floor and rear seat backs.
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/35695241063/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2960"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4399/35695241063_78fb646b5a_h.jpg" width="1200" height="1600" alt="IMG_2960"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Led Light placement Upper Right side in the lift gate: same for the Left side too:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36504087545/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2977"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4432/36504087545_6f252e7bd8_h.jpg" width="1600" height="1200" alt="IMG_2977"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Lower Left side facing inwards to the floor area and seats:
<a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/3md-studio-jp/36107467310/in/album-72157687476598715/" title="IMG_2976"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4402/36107467310_06b2d8e73c_h.jpg" width="1600" height="1200" alt="IMG_2976"></a><script async src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Lower Right Side with the 12v where I connected in for power and the push button switch. I did not want then to come on all the time, just when I needed them. (just My preference..) The button will light up blue and I am still researching how to connect it to the cargo dome light for power.. I want it to come on with the dome light (the blue ring) giving the option to turn the lights on or not. On hind site I might have looked more into the mercury switch as well... still might so when the door opens the mercury switch turns on the light.. but for now.. I'm happy, and that's good enough for me..

Good write-up and should be posted in How-To section.

Very nice!

I think the JDM CX-5 actually has more lights in the trunk than the US one. Don't know why Mazda USA thought that we could certainly use less lights...

Awesome! This is a super clean install.

Glad I could provide some inspiration.

Did you also wire in a mercury switch of some kind for the lights to automatically turn on when opening the tailgate? Or is this something you turn on manually every time?

Edit: I also realized I wrote the original write up more than 3 years ago and my lights are still going strong! Haven't had any hiccups or issues!
