2017 and Valentine One

I had mine updated about 2 months ago. it works pretty well not reporting random cars. But I still have the Gorilla Tape over the SCBS laser to keep it from setting off the V1. I can't remember if I tested the new V1 without the tape. The old one was pretty irritating without the tape. The laser warning will sometimes go off when I meet a neighbor in his CX-5.

You can disable laser alerts on the Valentine, even an old one. The laser alerts are less useful than SCBS, since they just tell you that you've gotten a ticket.

I have a 2019 CX-5 Signature and the camera now handles the work that the laser did in my 2016 GT. I had laser disabled on the V-1 in my 2016. Now I have it enabled again. Older CX-5s sometimes set off my V-1 laser alert when they drive by.

The rear parking sensors of the Signature set the V1 off constantly so you have to go into the V1 programming and make a change and it goes away.

Been a V1 user since forever. Maybe the 90's?

When they offer useful upgrades I buy them. I'm on their most current design and software.

I have the V1 hardwired and the remote display mounted on the steering column. I install the V1 main unit in a manner that if a police officer ever had to chat with me he would not see it. I also add a power toggle switch to the wiring and if I was pulled over I would hit the switch and the V1 powers off. As stealth as I can get.

As a side note, I hate the SCBS and I am hoping someone finds a way to disable it permanently. I have to disable it each time I start the car. On no less than 5 occasions that stupid software has almost caused me to get in a serious collision. I know how to drive and am an active offensive driver. Just last week it jammed on my breaks so hard the G's I received were as if I was in a minor collision. There was no chance of any collision at that moment. The system has a known fault that activates it when another car in front is close, but in the process of turning. Mazda has admitted to me that its a known issue.

How much space (approximately) are you leaving when this happens?

Virginia or DC? Or do you just not want to antagonize the guy who stopped you?
Got stopped once, and when he saw the detector, he sneered and said "I guess that didn't do you much good, huh?" as he wrote me up. No chance to talk my way out of that one.
I spent almost 20 years hiding detectors in VA, doing stuff like you are. Never did get busted, for the detector, anyway.
Sounds like you've got a nice setup. Doesn't it just frost your ass that you've got to hide it?!

VA isn't very driver friendly... strict speeding laws (any speed greater than 20mph over, or 80mph, is reckless driving... but that's normal speed on I-95), no radar detectors allowed, have to keep an annoying sticker in your front windshield (that's really unneccesary).

I like the Gadsden plate you can get though.

Interesting. I installed my escort passport (blendmount with invisicord) and it doesn*t make a peep when backing up. In fact, nothing in my 2019 signature causes any issues. I have K band activated and nothing else inactivated (despite the fact NJ really only uses Ka with the occasional X band).

Other vehicles* BSM does cause false K band alerts, as you would expect.

Probably not nearly enough. I hate to be "that guy" but there's no issues with the system if the driver isn't riding on bumpers accelerating aggressively when someone is turning in front. There is no issue, Mazda's statement to skeptical was just to placate him. I'm pretty sure all current AEB systems would react the same way in the situations skeptical mentions.

The situation I don't like, but accept, is the audible warning when I'm on a 2 lane highway with a speed limit of 50MPH and the car in front of me makes right turn into a driveway, or side road. The car in front comes to a nearly complete stop before turning and otherwise takes forever. I'm timing my approach so that the car will be out of the way by the time I'm there, but the Mazda behaves as though the car is still going to be there when I arrive and gives the alert.

There is no oncoming traffic, and worst case I would normally just skirt around the car as it gets out of the way to add a little margin. Maybe the Mazda wouldn't complain if I put on my left turn signal.

But there are a couple of times where I felt perfectly safe doing this timing operation, but the Mazda gave me the audible/visual warning BRAKE! that persists after I'm past the car.

I'm generally not an aggressive driver. Usually leave at least 2 to 3 seconds between the driver in front and my car.

For sure, I've been in these same situations as well. Its basically the same situation skeptical is describing. Personally I just changed my driving style so that I maintain a safer amount of room between my car and the turning car. My general behaviour is the same, I just brake a little earlier. No more drama.

I can totally appreciate how annoying this would be on a highway though. In that case I would stick to the left lane whenever possible.

How fast do you have To go to get a ticket these days? 20 over?

I just drove I-75 from MI to GA, and drove a bit too fast on the way home. I did not see too many radar areas, and normal traffic was moving close to 80 mph, at least when the untrained truck drivers were trying to pass at 65 in the mountains.

First trip with the Sig, and a joy to drive. No regrets, whatsoever.

Will an early V1 work with a Sig? I searched my house for mine until I remembered I left it at my Winter home. It hasn't been plugged in for years.

I only hide it so that if I do ever have to visit with an officer roadside, he will not likely realize I have it and let me work my magic on talking him out of citing me.

Weeeel, that not entirely true, though it does often happen that way. With my old Gen1 V1, I got a laser warning in Nashville in plenty of time to find and lock eyes with the cop on the shoulder. He was looking angry, perhaps because he noticed I jammed on the brakes. ;)

The Gen2 V1 is remarkably quiet and gives noticably longer distances on Ka.
