There were many helpful threads here to get me to a point where the USB was working but playlists were still frustrating.
There were no samples of working M3U files so I wanted to share what the file needs to look like to play
What is important to note here is the slash (\) at the very beginning of the path to the MP3 file. It seems that the infotainment system needs to know that it must be at the root of the drive and then work down into the sub directories.
In my case, it kinda looks like this
/
