2018 CX-9 Signature
I am in the market for a 2017 CX-9 Signature, but want to wait until I can get it at a rock bottom price. Does anyone have advice as to when would be the best time to buy? Factory incentives are only at $1,500 right now... I suspect they'll go much higher later in the year ($4,000-ish). Any thoughts?

Fall is probably the best time to buy once the 2018s start coming into dealerships as they would want to move any remaining 2017s in stock. Only drawback could be that by then there would be limited choices on the colours/trims...other issue could be that the price of the Sig trims would be lower than MSRP but only up to a certain point (maybe few thousands less). If price is really your concern maybe consider getting a 2nd hand 2016 MY by next year from lease returns or possibly demo units from dealerships.

Yeah, it sounds like price is a priority for you. Would you consider used? I've seen used 2016 GT & signatures for over $8K off the new price with only about 10K miles on them.

Like tekbis said, you can't be picky about color or even trim if you wait for leftovers. Then it's usually the less desirable ones left too.

Also consider that the 2018 looks to have more seat adjustments and other features that may be important to you.

I am surprised to get a very low quote from one of my local dealers on 2017 MG GT AWD. You can try giving a low low offer and see how much your dealers are coming down.If you buy now, you might have better color choices.
If you are not in a hurry, you can wait for 2018.

If you do your homework (and it takes a bit of work) it's possible to be relatively certain that you're buying at the maximum dealer discount.

But, an equally important variable is whatever Mazda is currently offering in the way of incentives and rebates. And there's not much you can do about that except to sit back and wait for them to be published.

I tend to get hung up on finding the very best price on exactly the right product and sometimes forget that the convenience having something exactly when you need it is worth far more than any 10% discount.

If you're in Southern California, Capistrano Mazda turned out to be very easy to work with. I essentially told them that I would buy from them if they could match the very lowest price I'd found, but it had to be with a car they had in stock and it had to be a hassle-free transaction. They agreed to the deal in an email so I took the train down there and, sure enough, we had the paperwork completed in just a few minutes with no upselling at all. Of course, I had previously told them that I would walk out if they even mentioned financing, under-body coating, or security system upgrades. :)

just bought a 17' cx9 sig. What is the out the door price you are looking for?

KBB has the "fair purchase price" of a 2017 CX-9 signature at $41,383 including destination and $1,500 rebate, which means there should definitely be room to go even lower. Anyone with recent transactions under this price (before tax + license)?

Thanks. My local Mazda wouldn't budge on 49k out the door for a Sig. I checked all over Cali and got a good deal on the color I wanted and price I believe is fair. Invoice on the sig is about 43k. Don't think you'll get anything below that.

Peter, glad you are happy with your purchase and the deal you got. One thing to consider is that, in Fresno, there isn't nearly as much dealer competition as up here in the Bay Area (only two dealers.) From a supply standpoint, there is nothing short of a glut of CX-9s on lots up here at the moment. Quick inventory check at Mazda showed 166 CX-9s on dealer lots within a 100 mile radius... and from a demand standpoint, they must not be moving fast either, because a major regional dealer (Stockton Mazda) just went under.

I paid 41,881 + tax and registration fees for a 2017 Signature via truecar in Sacramento, CA

Northern Cali and Bay Area would probably be cheaper. Most dealers that participate with truecar and costco have quoted no haggle prices between 41,700 and 42,200. If you spend the time you can probably get something for around 41,500. I wanted one without the front license plated drilled onto the bumper so I didn't have much bargaining power to go lower.

Thanks for sharing. Did that price include any promotional incentives?

Top of the line CX-9 are in higher demand and less negotiable. if you want a lower trim model, there is more flexibility. But I can tell you, having a Signature is nice and for the low 40's it's a steal compared to other cars. Can't stop smiling when I drive it.
