Hey everyone, I need help! I have an 08 Mazda 5. After normal driving and being parked for a couple hours I got in and started it and it immediately had a severe rattle coming from the engine. I went ahead and drove it home a short distance and it drove completely normal. I had a mechanic look at it and he thinks the crank is broken. He said the harmonic balancer is moving in and out about half an inch and rotates freely. It's also loosing oil from this area. He does not understand how it is running. I was doing some internet search and came across some articles about broken harmonic balancer. Does this make since and how do you tell with out tearing the engine apart?
