    Repair Opinons

    Hello,
    How bad is this?

Is this ok to lube up and assemble? or would I have to replace?

I have no experience with internals, so you probably shouldn't listen to me, but that doesn't look good. Was the engine starved for oil? Looks like there was lots of metal on metal going on.

What made you open it up in the first place?

yes, it was starved of oil. I was going to do an oil change over the weekend but the timing belt snapped while i was driving on the freeway under 15 mph.

I read that it may or may not be an non interference engine.

    Not good.

You need someone to chime in who can judge the severity of the material loss. I would assume that it will only get worse if it's not machined smooth again but tolerances may not allow you to do that.

Reminds me I should check my belt and see when I changed it last.

Engine damage (bent valves) after snapping a timing belt is VERY Rare... Only a few guys have had it happen.

It's well worth putting a new belt on it.

As far as your pictures go,... That looks really wrong. (but I don't know much about engine internals either).

You could score a used camshaft and parts off a junker for quite cheap.

Yeah, if you have damage like that up top, you can bet that there is damage in the lower end too.

I'd start looking for a motor.
