Has anyone here ever polished their windshield outside and if so did you use a clay bar or a fine sand paper to prep it?

I am not sure what your goal is, but I have used McKees glass restorer/polish to remove water spots and similar visual things (not surface contaminants like over spray). It is good stuff.

Use fine sandpaper on your windshield? Good luck with that.

Griot's has a nice windshield clay, as well as polish.

Use no sand paper. There are products made specifically for windshields that removes scratches that can't be felt with your fingernail when dragged across it. I have used it and it was very effective. I.E. http://www.eastwood.com/pro-glass-polishing-kit.html It's effective but it can be messy. Follow directions.

I used to use 0000 steel wool - but have since stopped. It will cut through hard debris but wont impact water spots.

I have no idea if this works but one of my nephews did detailing for a while and he used to use some kind of hydrochloric acid solution on windows. I think it was to just remove water spots though.
