Dealing with the rust

So I have owned my p5 for roughly 2 months and I am definitely in love! I only hate that I live where rust really eats up your car.

So now all I want to do is fix the rust! Would it be easier to just sand and filler the rust or should I just cut and weld new panels?

Get it jacked up and check all underneath, especially the rear subframe. Plus under the hood. Doesn't look bad for a Wisconsin P5 and the body showing is fairly superficial rust. Rear subframe rust, which appears most often on the passenger side, can doom a P5 without extensive work.

The underside is pretty rusty but I was more curious about the panels

Sanding it down, applying a rust converter, and filling it with kitty-hair Bondo will only last a couple years.

Cutting and welding is permanent if done right, but much more labor intensive.

Thats what I wanted to hear! My buddy does body work and can probably do it for me for pretty cheap :)

I am also interested in the rust repair, I already have the replacement panels and my brother knows how to do the welding..

Say where is Wisconsin do you live? I'm right near the border of MN!

Eau Claire at the moment, very soon though I will be moving up north closer to St. Croix Falls/ Taylors Falls

I'm in Baldwin lol. Well anyways I work for a company that custom builds, installs, and maintains aquariums so today we went right through Taylor's falls and later this week we are headed to Eau Claire! I thought that was funny but I'm kinda lame.
