Is the Mexico with the latter?
CX-5 has standard tire as the spare in Mexico:

USA and Canada:
T145/90D16 106M - 420 kPa (60 psi) inflation pressure

Mexico:
185/80R17 95M - 250 kPa (2.5 bar, 36 psi) inflation pressure

thx for the info yrwei52,

any reason why Mexico gets the standard spare and we don't ?

is it something we can buy and it'll still fit the US spec trunk spare tire cavity ?

Like CX-5 uses 225/65R17 102V instead of 225/65R17 100H on 17" tires, or it specifies 5W-30 oil instead of 0W-20 oil in Mexico, who knows why Mazda provides 185/80R17 95M instead of T145/90D16 106M for spare in Mexico? (uhm) Compare the sizes of OE tires used by CX-5:

Tire SizeDiameterWidthSidewallCircum.Revs/Mile
225/65R17 100H28.5"8.9"5.8"89.5"729
225/55R19 99V28.7"8.9"4.9"90.3"723
T145/90D16 106M26.3"5.7"5.1"82.5"791
185/80R17 95M28.7"7.3"5.8"90"725

We can see clearly the benefit of using 185/80R17 for the spare as its diameter is about the same as 4 road tires. Someone has put a 225/55R19 GT tire in the spare tire cavity and there's no issues on diameter but width is the problem. It rises the trunk floor quite a bit. Supper narrow 185/80R17 tire should have no problem to fit in the trunk. The real problem is finding the tire with this size in the US!

Another option I'm getting ready to try is a mustang 18" spare wheel with 155/85/18 that comes out to 28.4 ". I started looking for a different spare for a completely different reason than this ( I'm doing a fiberglass sub enclosure and need a wheel that will give e me the air space I want) and I came across the mustang wheel. I may need a hub ring but that's minor
