After 11+ years, I got my first P0300 code and replaced the coils with Autozone/O'Reilly ones and that fixed things for a couple years. I'm getting the P0300 code again, so this time I got Hitachi coils from RockAuto as I read on the forum they're OEM. I don't *think* my cheap replacement coils were from Japan, and I was surprised to see that these were. Mazda dealer wanted $126 per coil.

The markings, whatever they said, have been ground off. [emoji15]

Go to your Mazda dealer and ask if you could have a look at their OEM one. And compare.
Then report back if what you have is in fact "OEM Hitachi".

I pulled the old coils off. One had been purchased from Autozone and the other from O'Reilly. (Each store had only one in stock at the time.). One actually was from Japan and still looks new, the other is from parts unknown and looks a bit ratty. The one from Japan has its markings ground off just like the new Hitachi ones do and rattles a bit when I shake it.

My initial takeaway from this is that I should buy the parts from my local parts store after checking the label on the part, preferring ones from Japan.

Update: looks like the O'Reilly (Import Direct) part is Hitachi:
