Hi folks,

I'm looking to buy a portable air compressor to maintain the tires. The one I'm looking at (Viair 78P, if anyone's curious) requires 15 amps. I was under the impression most cars' cigarette lighter can handle 15 amps. However I decided to double check the manual and was surprised that it read "no greater than 120 W (DC 12 V, 10 A)."

Am I incorrect to assume most cars can handle 15 amps or is the CX-5 just different?

Thanks for the help!

not sure, but I think if you use it for a long time like 8-10 minutes it'll blow a fuse.....

I just use something like this... a standalone portable jumper/air compressor, extremely handy....

https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

or if you really have your heart set on the 15A compressor you posted, you can use this adapter and run it off the battery and not strain your OEM accessory wiring

Thanks for the advice! I'll look into compressors that run off the car battery.
