Canadian GT drivetrain FWD or AWD?

:
2014.5 CX-5 GS FWD 2.5L
Was in the dealer the other day and was told GT's only come with AWD. Cannot get a GT with FWD. That includes 2016 -17.
I like some of the GT features but I don't really want AWD. Never really thought about it, but if shopping for a new vehicle, that may leave Mazda off the list.
Has this changed in the last couple model years, or is this just a Canadian thing?

PS......this is not a debate about AWD vs FWD and which is better or worse.

Mazda CX-5 sells AWD on 63% of its sales. Here in usa AWD is optional. All trims and packages. They may have done it for Canada.

AWD was standard on the GT trim for the 1st gen CX-5's as well. Given the weather though, I can't imagine why anyone would not want AWD in Canada.

Even here in Denver, when I bought my CX-5 in 2013 (2014 model year), the dealer flat out said they don't even bother to bring in the FWD versions, so literally AWD was the only option, which frankly makes sense when you factor winter in (though this year has been mild :) )

Not a lot from what I was told. A little extra attention needs to be paid to the brakes.
