Dealer had tons of 2016s on the lot...

Since I need a manual I have put the 2016 CX-5 back on my list. Went to dealer today to check out the interior of the sport (no manuals on this lot). They had 35 of them still! This surprised me. He told me the 2017 wouldnt be available for a few months, but I'm not sure I'm buying that one...

What do you mean "need?"

You have a medical condition? 🤣[emoji23]

It's a CUV, not a Cayman GTS, and even those are DCT [emoji849]🤣

I bought mine in ecexplorer 's neighborhood. It was a five hour drive, but Deal's Gap is along the path, so why not.
The dealer in NC had a manual with the most options one could get, which meant fog-lights and roof-rails.

I support your quest for a Manual! I'm thinking the biggest difference would be the lack of MazdaConnect (command knob & infotainment touch display) on a Sport Auto vs Sport Manual. Am I wrong? I know that all the manuals only have the radio that has knobs & a seven-segment type display. Obviously 2.0L only as opposed to 2.5L, but I'm assuming you know that. If you have any questions, I'm a recent manual owner myself. Hoping to welcome you to the family! :)
Cool, yeah those are the only differences right? The audio system as welll as the 2.0L? You still get bluetooth with that audio system right?

Yes, actually, my mental health depends on it...

Automatics have just so much going for them. Not seeing any regular manufacturer providing Manuals. Think of it - if you are moving houses, are going on long trips with friends - unless all know how to drive manuals your car becomes a liability. Lets not even add medical emergencies where AT is better.

BTW, I have the same medical condition (restless left foot when driving) and picked up the 2016.5 Sport MT after I learned the 2017 would not have a MT. I did consider waiting a bit and picking up 2017 Canadian MT model in Ottawa, but though it would be too much trouble to bring it in the US.

Got 3300 off MSRP with 1800 from Costco and 1500 from Mazda.

Yes. If Grey wasnt the most unsafe car color - I would go for it, but since it is - Silver all the way.
I think the study says red or white is the safest and all others colors are equal, even silver. And there are others that refute the whole thing.

Sweet, how do you like it? Fun to shift/drive?

Sounds like me LOL!

My girlfriend hates it when we are sitting at a red light and my left foot is going crazy and shaking the car.

I don't consider it a liability. I have never traveled with friends on long trips where they drove nor do I know anyone who does. Considering that something simple like a flat tire can render a vehicle immobile, I don't think my choice of a manual transmission is a consideration regarding medical emergencies. Your position supports self-driving cars without steering wheels. :)

That thought is scary, isn't it? :)

Well I'm one person who lets my friends drive. I drove from Minneapolis to Edmonton. About a 1,200 mile and change drive and 19 hours. I drive until I get tired and switch. This is why I won't ever go stick. Then you have valet parking where more and more people don't know stick. I started asking last year. Out of 5 times I used valet parking, two (One at a restaurant, and one at a hotel downtown) didn't know, but they had other staff who did. Stick might be more fun, but its can be a PITA.....IMHO.

I guess I'm of the opinion that certain vehicles are better with sticks and others as automatic.

While I do enjoy manual mode and am toying with the idea of some paddle-shifters, I otherwise would not want a stick in my CX-5.

Now the ol' TJ I grew up with, roadsters (like a Miata or something), etc. then I'd absolutely want a stick.

My first brand new car was a manual 1984 4 speed Ford Escort. It was a dog in power and handling, but I enjoyed rolling the gears. If I were to purchase a Miata or other sports car, it would definitely be a stick. I taught my wife to drive it as well. The good thing is it's like riding a bike, you never forget.
