I thought I remembered seeing something about a new 'CX7' concept at some point that was basically a slightly stretched CX5 with a 3rd row actually.
Curious now...
After some Googling:
No idea how 'accurate' these are but the general concept of a revived CX7 nameplate based on stretched CX5 architecture with an available 3rd row isn't entirely loopy.

The 2018 CX-7 won’t get its own platform. Instead the SUV will borrow CX-5 architecture, which will be stretched a bit.

The head of Mazda Australia, Martin Benders has hinted that the CX-7 model designation may be about to be revived. The new CX-7 will be more spacious and get an optional third row of seats, the model should fit between the CX-5 SUV and the CX-9
