You want different size tires to be within 2% of the original tire size outside diameter. You need load carrying capacity equal or greater than original. If the wheels have the same center bore size (or larger with a fitting ring), same lug bolt circle diameter & number of lugs, same offset, same or narrower width, you're good. (The old myth about narrow snow tires being better has been debunked. Narrower is OK, but original width has minor advantages.) I ran 17" Kia wheels with Blizzak snows, and they worked well.
