How to fix scratched steering wheel?

Hi guys.

I'm ashamed to say I bought some kitchen items including a metal cookie sheet and when pulling them out of the car, managed to scratch the steering wheel with the cookie sheet.

Any ideas on how I can go about fixing this?

Thanks.

Heat gun set to LOW heat should do it, just be very careful not to concentrate the heat in the same spot for too long, move the heat gun back and forth all along the scratch.

You know, that never occured to me and I have a heat gun in my computer parts closet.

Will give it a go, thanks!

A little trick a learned a few years back, let us know how it turns out.
Well, I either screwed up or it was just too deep a scratch, sadly.

Is it possible to replace that part of the steering wheel?

Well, did the heat do anything at all to it?

It is part of the airbag system, and I believe you would have to replace the entire airbag system which is around $650.

I suppose it might be possible to get just the cover from an auto salvage yard but I really don't know...

Oh and this was the result after the heat gun. Low setting, did not stay in one place, just up and down the length of the scratch.

It pointed out the scratch much better... ^^
Be careful with the hot gun, especially on soft surfaces

Yep. Well I tried. I really didn't have the heat on it very long, but saw it wasn't working. :(

Please advice if you find the cover. I scratched mine too.

The covers are there, but trying to find a guide to replacing it online and not having much luck.

Since there is an airbag I imagine I need to do some other things to not set it off.

Perhaps the paddle shifter add-on mod instructions could shed some light.
