2016 transmission delayed shifting after 2015 transmission replacement

2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring
After over ten years with my 2003 Mazda Protege, which I had almost no problems with, i leased a 2015 CX5, which I had to have the transmission REPLACED before my first oil change. After 6,000 miles. I got rid of it, and traded it in for a 2016 CX5, 13 months ago.

NOW, the transmission is delaying shifting in the morning.

I'm ready to get rid of it. What do you suggest? I do not trust Mazdas anymore. What the hell do I do, at this point?

Let Mazda worry about it. I had my trans swapped at 32k miles, now I'm at 66k miles with no problems....I think I may have just jinxed myself....(wow)

I hear you and that's why I don't want to say anything about my transmission⋯ ;) And I do plan to drain-and-fill the ATF at around 50,000 miles so that I still have about 10,000 miles left on my powertrain warranty to cover it if anything happens! (Unobtanium's advice)

To OP, I'd lost confidence to Mazda if I have 2 transmission problems on 2 same and almost new vehicles within 3 years! My suggestion is if you really like the driving experience of the CX-5, go get transmission replaced and keep driving. Get rid of it before the powertrain warranty expires and get a new 2nd-gen CX-5. I really don't think you'll have the transmission problem again the third time! Or you can always go with conservative way getting a Toyota or Lexus to have less worries on reliability. Of course this's assuming you have no financial burdens on getting rid of the car more frequently.

I think you should trade it for one of those new diesels so you can haul around a bobcat or something. Gonna be a game changer that diesel. It's what the CUV market has been missing.

Was the protege a ford/Mazda product?

My transmission did that ONCE, I have yet to replicate it again, but that's why I bought the 100K mile warranty from my CU when I financed it. I think automatics are crap and always break, so I figure if I get 100K+ out of it, it's paid for its replacement, and if I don't, then it's covered. I kill autos dead. Manuals? Never had one with an issue. Put 150K miles on my T56, changed the clutch and hydraulics out at around 80K, and that's all.

We got lifetime engine drivetrain warranty when we purchased our 2015 touring... I had some transmission "Oddities" early on, but resetting the on-board computer (removing negative battery terminal) for about 10 minutes seems to have resolved the issue... 21k miles so far...

Fix could be as simple as this. With everything being software controlled these days, an occasional glitch wouldn't be uncommon.

I left two voicemails for my representative with Mazda corporate last week. Someone finally called me back yesterday and offered to temporarily install a data logger in the car and have a Mazda engineer take a look at it. He said they'll be in contact with me next week to coordinate it, but I don't know if I believe that.
The only solution I can think of is to get rid of it and buy something old that has a manual or old-fashioned 4-speed automatic with a cable-operated throttle. These new fly-by-wire throttles are horribly slow to respond.

You are majorly over-reacting. Calm yourself down, let the dealer install the data logger.

Yep...I miss my 1988 Chevy Nova (Corolla), most reliable car I ever had..

Yes, I'm going to let them install the data-logger, provided they will contact me to install it. I haven't heard from Mazda since they offered it early last week.
@mashburned, The Protege was a product of the Mazda/Ford partnership, but it was 99% Mazda, and less than 1% Ford. It was the car the late model Ford Escort was based on.

I've reset the ECU several times, and have had the dealership reset the "learning parameters" twice on the existing car, and three or four times on the previous car.

My brother just had his transmission replaced on his 2015 at 30,000 miles. He said his was slipping intermittently from day one and would occasionally bang into gear. So far my 2014 has not experienced this issue.

Are you going to sit round and wait, or get onto the front foot??

Do you own a smart phone?

Take a video of the dashboard so you can see the tacho and the gearchanges early the morning when the problem occurs. You then have solid evidence to show the dealer and for them to show Mazda. Upload the video to dropbox and send them a link. Its not hard, heres thenone I made for the same purpose.

Or, get the dealer to send a mechanic to your home first up in the morning and take them for a drive so they experience the issue first hand.

If you do that and can show them proof of the problem, they will address it.

Ha, this won't happen in the US! :)

Many people treat their vehicle as an appliance. They only want a trouble-free vehicle and don't want to deal with any major problems especially for a new car. They're too busy and they simply don't have time to visit dealer often. There're incidences here when they have transmission problem, they replace it under warranty, then dump the car getting another one or another brand.
