How do I know when my Mazda is DPF regenerating?

Hi all, could use some advice if anyone can help. We have a Mazda 6 2013 2.2 TDI. We have encountered the problem of it doing the DPF regen and not suceeding - this results in diesel going into the oil and the pressure dropping. Basically, I'm wondering - does anyone know how you can tell if the regen is happening so that we can make sure the car is running? I'm not sure if there is a warning light that flashes or can you hear it or smell it or anything? My wife drives the car and hasn't noticed anything but I'm not really sure what she should be looking out for.

Any advice welcome. Thanks, Ken

On my CX5 2.2 D, the iStop light goes out and iStop does not operate when the DPF regen cycle is actively happening. That's the easiest way to tell.

Even better is the energy recovery when decelerating is not charging the capacitor. Or if you have the diagnostics hardware and Forscan software, there is a PID for regen_on. I. Am on my 370 some regen with my 2013.
