Touring Standard vs Bose Radio (USA spec)

Base on this statement alone Bose system is perfect for you!

Yeah you have to pay premium ($1,130 MSRP) for a mediocre "premium" sound system on the CX-5 Touring, especially comparing it to similar Bose system on Mazda6、CX-9、or even CX-3, as Mazda has removed dash tweeters and doesn't include a sub-woofer in CX-5. But since replacing speakers on a basic audio system won't improve sound quality too much, and replacing head unit is not something you want to do, I think getting a factory integrated Bose system is the best compromise for you.

Besides, once you added the Moonroof/Bose Package, you get a chance to add $1,275 MSRP Touring Technology Package which has LED lightings with Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS)、rain-sensing wipers、auto-dim mirror w/Homelink、Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) and other goodies. I believe LED DRLs alone make your CX-5 looking more modern and cool, not to mention LED headlights with AFS improve visibility of night-time driving for much greater safety.

the CX-5 does have dashboard tweeters, just no subwoofer

The lighting package is much more than just "Brighter Lights" Adaptive lighting package is awesome. Would be almost impossible to add them aftermarket.
I like the Bose system, has better sound than the $875 HK system that was in my BMW. Plenty loud for me. Hate the sunroof though.

Part of the Technology Package on Touring and Grand Touring
models, the Adaptive Front-lighting System automatically
adjusts the angle of the vehicle’s headlights according to the
steering angle and vehicle speed. When cornering or
approaching intersections at night, the headlights’ beam
illuminates the path the car will actually follow, enhancing
driver safety.

I guess the point is that if someone only wants 1 of the 3 BOSE/Moonroof/Lighting combo then its likely not worth to get the package. If you like 2 or more of the package then get it. The aftermarket has some options now to supplement missing features. Or even enhance existing features.

Some of my hobbies are speaker and crossover design and pro audio sound support.

The 2015 Blose system in the CX-5 is the worst sounding POS I have ever heard in a car.

This is funny, though I am trying to adapt my '14 Touring to make use of the center speaker location but having a hard time locating a 5 channel full or high pass amplifier, everything is 4ch + sub. I was thinking 3x Polk DB351 in the dash and a set of components in the doors but won't take the leap until I can find the right amp. Any ideas?

You could call them tweeters, but they are basically a 3.5 dual cone speaker crossed over at a higher point. :)
From historical knowledge that isn't much different than what Bose does

I am very disappointed with my BOSE system in my 2014 touring. One CD changer, the Audio doesn't maintain a constant volume from station and the feature that is suppose to increase the volume as road noise & speed doesn't work well. The sunroof is great however. I don't blame BOSE because MAZDA is the one who contracted it for my CX5.:-( Ed

Sorry, CX-5 has three 3" (8cm) "mid-range" Twiddler in dash area but no tweeters! Mazda6, which has similar Bose system, does add two 1" (2.5cm) tweeters next to two corner 3" speakers in dash, hence 11 speakers total.

1" tweeter hidden beneath corner dash speaker grill on 3rd gen Mazda6:

No, CX-5 3" Bose dash speakers are not tweeters. Even Bose themselves call them "mid-range" Twiddler in the press release!

Here are some comparison pictures of the stock Bose left/right dash speaker (shown left), the stock Bose center dash speaker (shown middle), and the Polk Audio db351 (shown right) from ryan4130. As you can see these 3" Bose dash speakers neither "dual-cone" nor "co-axial"!

You're right only on this part, don't blame CX-5's poor Bose system on Bose! Bose actually designed 11-speaker Bose system like the one in Mazda6 for CX-5. But it's Mazda's decision to eliminate two 1" dash tweeters from CX-5 to save extra pennies! One persistent member here called Bose many times about disappointing Bose system in CX-5 and verified this from a Bose engineer!

The disappointment is far more than the elimination for two speakers. Every station change requires me to reset the volume level. As vehicle speed climbs and noise increases the BOSE system is supposed to compensate and it does that poorly. The sound is fairly good but, the lack of usable features reeks of cheapness. I did and know how to set up the features. Ed
