Fuel Economy

We just leased a 2018 CX-5 Sport and we still have a 2016.5. The lease just ended on the 2016. We took a trip from Syracuse NY to Mobile Alabama and traveled back to Oliver Springs Tennessee and back to Syracuse. We traveled 2500 miles in 6 days. I like that the 18 came with blind spot monitoring standard but it is the first CX 5 that they didn't throw in the GPS standard. My wife was adament about having the GPS but couldn't bring myself to spending $325 from the dealer so I bought an Sd card on ebay. Overall the steering felt a little different from the 2 previous vehicles but still excellent and I hand calculated the mileage and ended up with 28.6 mpg with speeds from 65 to 83. My previous trips with the 2016 never above 26.3 mpg. The one thing major thing I did notice is the cabin is much quieter.

I got 31.4 on my 2016 on the way to Michigan, and 28.7 on the way back. Higher speeds on the way home.

I took a trip Saturday from Portland to southern Oregon. A 4 hour drive. After the first hour and I past Salem my mileage was 49.6 MPG. After that it went down to about 47 and was holding steady until I hit the steep mountains in south part of the state. So by the time I arrived I averaged 45 MPG. So my mileage has not decreased since the car was new. I now have 70,000 miles.

That’s excellent for the 2 liter engine. I’ve driven that stretch several times. Its a beautiful drive.

Fuel economy update for our ‘17 GT AWD. We just got home from a 320 mile loop drive over a couple of days. I went over 3 mountain passes and temps ranged from the upper 60’s on the Seattle side to about 80 on the east side of the mountains.

I got 34.9 mpg or 6.74 liters per 100km. Air conditioning was on about 75% of the trip.

I’m happy with this.

I was surprised how little effect the AC running had on my trip.

Did a trip from Gladstone (Queensland Australia) home to Cleveland Qld, a 6.5hour trip. Highway speeds 100-110 km/hr most of the way. Some 80km/hr roadworks areas.

Heavily loaded with 2 x big adults and the back seats folded down and the car packed chock full of fishing gear, and a 120 litre cooler full of fish. Could only just see out of the rear view mirror. She was fully loaded. Pushing into a 15 knot SE wind all the way.

Average economy on arrival home was 5.8 litres/100kms which is about 40.55mpg (US). Predicted range in the vicinity of 900kms in total.

2016 CX5 Akera 2.2 turbo diesel.

Gotta be happy with that!

2.5 NA without CD personal best this morning : 38 mpg. Traffic light gods were generous and traffic was mild. I need to air up a bit.

2019 GTR - I get 27.0 - 27.5 for most every tankful. My daily commute is 90% highway. About half at 75-80 and half with mixed traffic.

Just drove from SW Missouri to San Antonio. That includes mostly 70-85mph speeds. Average was about 28 until I hit the 80-85mph speed zones, and then settled in at 27.3mpg. This vehicle is in line with all the rest of my vehicles EXCEPT my 2015 CX5, in that it handily bests highway EPA rating with me driving.

This is what I posted in 2015 about my 2015. Same exact drive, except I started about 25 miles north of that drive, in SWMO.
I did some traveling this week.

From Bentonville, AR to San Antonio, I averaged 25.1mpg highway, travelling at 65 to 80mph.
From Dallas to Bentonville,AR, I averaged about 27mpg, travelling at 65-80mph. (The reason I started it at Dallas was because I sat idling for a bit while I ate in Austin, and didn't want to skew things, so I re-set it at Dallas-ish)

The GT-R is legit better. In. Every. Way. To hell with the puny, fuel thirsty 2.5 NA motor.

I only have about 1500 miles on my 2018 GT-R now but the gauge shows an average of 22.8 MPG. That is about 80% city driving. Last week I made a 200 mile round trip up to the SoCal mountains. I had the A/C on most of the time. I averaged a little over 28 MPG. I figured that was pretty good as it probably sucked a lot of gas climbing up to about 6000 ft elevation and saved gas doing a lot of coasting back downhill for about 25-30 miles of the return trip.

GT-R = Grand Touring Reserve? I thought the Reserve was new for 2019 and the 2018 models only went up to GT.

Lottle over 3k miles on *19 reserve averaging 24.5mpg. 90% highway drive.
