Intake system cleaning

I had my 2012 cx9 at the dealer for an oil change at 40,00 miles. The service tech. tried to sell me on what he called "Intake system cleaning". He said that the tube from the EGR valve gets dumped into #1 cylinder and causes carbon build up on the piston & valves. This seemed like a far fetched story to me so I declined. I'm not sure how much they would have charged for this, but bet it's not cheap. Anyone else ever heard of this? He also recommended a power steering oil change which seemed a little closer to reality. Again has anyone heard of this? I could not find either of these in the recommended maintenance.

Unless the CEL is throwing a code on the EGR valve, don't waste your money.

My wife's 09 CX-7 DID throw a CEL 2 months ago on her EGR valve. While I was able to get the EGR valve replaced under warranty, they did see the system all carbonized and recommend having the remainder of the system cleaned up for another $150. We did pay for this since they were in there anyway.
