I know this question has been asked a few times on how to get to the command knob area in the 2016 CX-5 for cleaning. If you need to take apart the console, see this how-to: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123856681-2016-Center-Console-Removal

So, if you though that getting to the cabin air filter was easy, try this!

Step 1: Clear out your cup holders, that other little area next to those (I keep gift-cards and a tin of Altoids there), and remove the little tray in the center console storage.

Step 2: Pull the trim straight up at the yellow marks indicated below. Then pull straight up where the red indications are.

Step 3: Do whatever it is you want to do. Be sure to disconnect (and reconnect!) the cables going to the command knob and the E-Brake (and you should disconnect the battery before this) if you need to remove the trim from the location. Then open a nice cold beverage and enjoy your work!

(Note - flip over the piece you removed and there are 4 screws holding the commander knob parts (with the "shiny" trim) to the rest.)
How to for the rest of the 2016 center console removal: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123856681-2016-Center-Console-Removal.

My Question:
I have a scratch on the plastic over the automatic drive indicator that I want to remove. If I follow the steps above should I be able to pull the shift trim plate easily? Or will I need to pull the front trim portion off as well, as shown in your link: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showt...onsole-Removal?

Anyone who has pulled the shift trim, please help.

Thanks.
