So as SOON as I turn on my CX-7 it starts this whining noise that SOUNDS like the power steering going or like the car is in reverse but it's constant so not JUST when turning the wheel or backing up.

Already checked power steering fluid and it's clean and full; no leakage but I already knew it wasn't that. I'm THINKING it could be a problem in the trans-axle but I'm no mechanic either.

Anyone have any idea?

Have you ever changed the transaxle gear oil on this 5+ year old car? Trans fluid? Check for a leaking cv boot as well. How many miles?

Never changed the fluid since I got it. I bought it in 2013. Is it a hard job to do 'solo' or is it another one of those "dealer only" situations?

Same difficulty as an oil change. Might help to have the service manual to reference. Usually it's like $10 on ebay or dl for free somewhere. Dealer prolly charge about 80 to do it. Is it awd?
