Broken connecting rod

Recently turned over my msp to hear what sounded like marbles rattling around in the engine. My mechanic has informed me that he figures one of the connecting rods has broken off either in the crank or one of the valves, and that i need a new motor. Unfortunately because they are so rare he cant find one, so the only other option is getting the motor rebuilt, which would be very costly. Am wondering if anyone knows of an MSP that is being parted out or has any other advice as to what i could do?!! Am at a total loss with this car

The engines are not rare. Any 3rd gen Protege engine will suffice. They are all the same except for the MSP has a bit of boost. You can easily swap out the block and internals.
