So, long story short, I need a new alternator. I have a friend at the dealer where the replacement is $275, though I have found a few NEW replacements online for around $110-$175...I definitely want new and not remanufactured; I've read a few horror stories of some P5 owners on here going through alternator after alternator until they found one that was worth a damn. So my question to y'all is, would the cheaper new alternator be worth the trouble? Or will that $100 I save go towards future labor in replacing the alternator again? I'm not too tight on money, but obviously I'd like to save $100. But, if it's gunna be a headache PITA, then I'd like to spend the money upfront on the dealer replacement to (hopefully) ensure I'll be good to go for a while.
