Hi,

Has anyone tried to hardwire the HD Dash Cam on the CX-9 2016? Will this void any warranty? If so, can it be done at Mazda dealership?

I'd like to have the HD Dash Cam mounted on my vehicle's windshield but do not like the cable hanging on the dashboard, connecting from the Cam to the power source (cigarette lighter, usb port).

Thank you in advance.

Easier yet just use an Invisicord off of mirror power. Installs in seconds.

Good point actually as i am already doing that with my radar.

Wondering if i can also tap into the mirror With both the radar and camera?

I hardwired a Blackvue 2-channel (front and rear) dashcam in my CX-9 about a week after purchase.

The linked store provides fuse taps when you also purchase the PowerMagic Pro with the camera.
No changes are made to the fuse box or any wiring.
It's merely a manner of running power to the cameras.
They also provide detailed videos that explain how to complete the process (though the fuse box location on the CX-9 is different than on the demonstrated vehicle).

Mine works perfectly.
No exciting videos yet ... and that's a GOOD thing; but it's comforting to know that I'll have video proof should there be an incident.

@turborascal,

which fuse did you wire it to? Can you share a picture? and did you have it where it is always on even while parked and the engine is off?

If so I'm wondering if it will drain the battery.

Thanks

Never mind. I read up about the power magic pro and it prevents the battery from draining.

hi, can I get some more info on this please? I'm looking at the Invisicord you link. I'm assuming the USB side is for the camera, the dual wires for the mirror power. How did you tap into the mirror power? did you use one of those power tap clamp things like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

No... actually simpler yet and far less invasive. Those pins you see will actually fit into the external side of the electrical connector to the Homelink mirror.

Is the mirror power just for the mirror or does it also provide power to the camera system? What's the rating? Radar detectors/dash cams draw current. If the wiring in the mirror isn't rated for the extra load, it could cause overheating/fire/damage to the mirror and or camera system (if connected together). I've been hesitant to do this because I'm not certain how they all wired together there. Can someone clarify?

Good point. My Escort Redline has a 2 Amp fuse and is said to actually draw under an amp, so I'm not too worried about it, but of course there are limits. I would imagine that most dashcams and other small electronics are similar, but you wouldn't want to power your roof mount halogen lamps with it. ;)

Most likely you'd just end up with a blown fuse, but anything's possible.

My Service Advisor just confirmed with me this morning that the dealership here (in So-Cal) will not install Aftermarket Dash Cam.
