I tow a 24' 7" caravan with a weight of 1700kg, uk diesel cx-5 has a tow limit of 2100kg for the 2017 model, my 2015 is 2000kg limit for a trailer WITH brakes.
I also have two bikes on the back carrying 40kg included in the 1700kg. But caravan also has shockers, and Alko ATC, google it for details.
We only get the 2L petrol rated at 1800kg towing limit, in the UK very few people will tow a caravan heavier than the kerb weight, mine is 1703kg.
My next car a 190ps Tiguan is rated to tow from 2200kg to 2500kg depending on the cars loading and a kerb weight from 1735kg , and a tongue weight of 100kg, cx-5 has 88kg limit.
It varies between country's.
