Newbie 5-day CX-5 owner here. Wasn't impressed with what I've seen of the U.S./Canada market OEM 'hood protector' and some hunting around the forums here only found the now-unavailable EGR hood deflector.

Some googling found that Mazda Australia and New Zealand offer OEM 'bonnet protectors' in clear and smoke for 2013-2016 CX-5s...

Just what I'm looking for... these sit above the hood surface and wrap down at the front. None of these available on eBay ship to Canada, but I found that Australian Online Car Parts does... ordered the smoke one today, AU $186 with express air shipping. A bit pricey, but AU and Cdn $ are pretty much at par and the OEM hood protector sells for $130 Cdn + tax, would be less in US $.

I'll post photos when it arrives and is installed.

Man, there are some other interesting parts offered on that Mazda site, like
Headlight protectors

Rear Seat Cover

As buggy as my front end gets, I like the idea of taking off some covers and soaking them to break up the bug guts.
How does that headlight protector work? Is it like a screen protector that just sticks on?

Here's a different hood protector... a little too much for my taste

These look like the EGR style...these might be pricey at $99... but worth it...

thank you for posting

I saw that one in my internet searching, there is also a version without the 'wings' over the headlights as seen here. I didn't see any viable shipping options to North America for these and would hesitate anyway over unknown quality... the Mazda Australia OEM one enroute to me should be 'safe'

Looks like your typical vinyl film, aka clear bra. We have it on the leading edge of our CX-5's hood & fenders.

On our Golf, we did the whole nose of the car. That really paid for itself last spring in Death Valley where we got caught in a sandstorm. All the grille pieces were sandblasted and the intercooler fins were folded over but there wasn't one bit of paint damage!

Mazda bonnet edge protector is like that for a reason. There's serious engineering on aerodynamics at play here. You install the after-market and you'll see the difference. Mileage WILL drop. Noise WILL increase. Been there, done that. I failed on 2 fronts - bonnet as well as the window deflectors. I took the window ones out (those that sticks) and IMMEDIATELY noticed a drop in road/wind noise.

But it seems that Mazda offers different edge protectors in different countries, which would make me believe that it's not specifically designed for the vehicle

I love my 2016 CX-5 but disappointed in the paint durability quality. Every little road debris leaves a tiny pin dink. Don't waste your money on Mazda's OEM "hood protector" 0000-8P-R04 unless you simply want something for show. Provides absolutely minimum protection to only 3 inches of the leading edge, and it has to be double tape stuck to your outside hood to stay in place! Hopefully one of the leading aftermarket providers will come up with something resonably priced soon, hopefully.

Gawd that deflector is fugly.

My first stop after purchase was to get the front end wrapped in clear vinyl.
