is there more to the 2015 Mazda 3's upgraded software?

:
2015 Mazda3
I do not have any GPS installed in my 2015 Mazda 3's radio receiver. I think I was given a quote of $599. Is it worth it? Is it just GPS? My XM radio is externally attached. Could I have everything if I have the software installed in my car? "Everything" meaning GPS, XM (without all that wire clutter in my car), etc. Is $599 worth it? Do I get anything else? I was hoping it came with a radar detector (which I already have as an external product - Escort brand). Can a dash cam be had as well or is the "software" that came installed in the car really just GPS type systems?

Are dealers the only ones with access to installing such thing or I can have it done elsewhere for less? It would be nice to have another gps other than what's in my phone.

You will need to research this more but that is way overpriced and it is not as complex as you think. NAV is simply a usb type memory stick (ssd) that you insert into the center console. The NAV software is in the ssd so when you turn on your infotainment, if it sees the card, you have NAV.

There are many people that have shopped around and bought the card after the fact. Oem from a dealer is $400, but I have heard you can ebay....but be careful because the NAV pairs itself to the VIN of the car after a few miles so buying used may not work.

I see. They should sell these as an after market thing where it's universal.

I just called the dealership they sell the SIM card for $400. It's not available as an after market. It's really just a GPS activation that will also "upgrade" the radio receiver. Installation was said to be free and easy to DIY.

I hope an "open source" version becomes available so that it won't have to "match the VIN".

Best to buy it from dealership these aftermarket looses GPS signal easily and at times lags. Buy it from dealer during sale and it be half the price that time.
