Where do you put your phone mount?

Curious where folks mount their phones in the CX-5 (2016)? I can't find a suitable spot for my rather large phone (LG V10)

Left bottom corner of windshield, above registration sticker.

I have a mount that attaches to the the driver's side vent of the center console. I have an iPhone 6 and the mount is from Kenu. It works pretty well, though it loosens up and the phone wants to rotate to a portrait orientation after a while. It looks like they have similar mounts for larger phones.

I used this one in my previous vehicle - a 2005 Toyota that didn't have GPS. It worked great, held tight and didn't cause any issues with the CD player. I haven't had a need to use it in my CX-5, but I'm sure it would work great. I have a huge phone also, iPhone 6 plus. The holder has a pretty strong spring.

This will block the infotainment screen, no?

I have this

But I am not completely happy with it. Stuck to the windshield, the phone shakes while in motion.

On a different car, we use this

But it does not work well in the CX-5, because the mount requires the vent opening to be in an angle to work well. In the CX-5 the opening is vertical (i.e. top of vent is right above bottom of vent).

It may a bit in portrait stance, but I'm thinking not in landscape stance. It's flexible regarding placement where you let it actually 'grab' the phone (high or low). I'll try it and let you know.

That's exactly what I do. I use a different CD slot mount, may only cover up the very top of the infotainment screen.

iPhone 6S Plus here, let it sit in the cupholder or the card slot next to the parking brake switch. I don't like phone holders in the windshield.

Also, people keeping their phones in front of the AC vent should avoid doing that. The cold/dry air coming from the vents specially in summer keeps the phone very cold and when you get out of the car it immediately condensates inside the phone damaging it. My friend ruined an S7 that way. People that use glasses know about this...

I can't comment specifically for the CX-5 but I'm using a Proclip mount in my MX-5. Here is a link to their two options for the CX-5. In addition you will need to buy the holder for your specific phone that will mount to the base. A bit pricey but they are very nice.

I keep meaning to order that pillar mount. But instead of buying the holder, I'm going to get one of the magnetic mounts and just attach it to the proclip.

Also for anyone interested, I just ordered the Proclip mentioned above, and found a 10% off coupon on Retailmenot.
If you are thinking of ordering a Proclip or something else, remember to check there.
I'll post pics once I get it installed.

I use this https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) and place it on the flat spot right on top between the gauge cluster and the radio. Easily accessible by hand and easily removed.

This was a target space for me as well. I was thinking of trying one of those 3M sticky jobbies with a magnet tucked in my case-back. I am a little hesitant about the 3M but they say it leaves no residue...
Does the suction cup hold onto the chrome top above the vent?

Should be able to. But don't use suction cup holding on to the rubberized dash surface. It'll cause permanent round mark according to people who had tried.
