Small Oil leak for me too... :-(

Those incompetent techs at the dealership are really screwing things up. I listed 10 items needing attention right before my new car warranty expired. The tech screwed several items up and refused to perform the EPB TSB. I talked to a master tech and he checked and agreed the EPB fix is needed. I requested that master tech to do the job in person as I no longer trust the tech who made several mistakes, he agreed and the brake works fine afterwards without introducing any air into the system like you did with rear caliper replacement.

Did you get a new oil pan or just a new oil pan gasket?
Got a new oil pan, but I'm 99.99999% sure that wasn't the problem. I can look down from the top and see a film of oil alongside the timing cover as you can see in the picture I provided, collecting at the oil pan area and then running off onto the plastic undercover. Also pointed this out to the tech.

No, he mentioned one when we talked, but none was referenced on the work order
 
One of the reasons I havent already changed AT fluid is that I dont want to waste $100 worth of fluid if dealer ends up having to crack the AT from engine to address issue and swaps out what I have already replaced. Leak/weep could go either way..AT or motor.
 
I read through this entire thread. What is crazy is car manufacturers work so hard on their motors to make them environmentally clean only to have faulty engineered seals and gaskets leak oil into the environment.
 
What is crazy is I got the similar issue now....was doing my usual engine compartment check when noticed oil vapours and some dust on the bottom/the passenger side. Below the ac compresor and aux belts. That wasnt there when I got the car or at least I have not noticed it.
Will have to remove under engine covers and take a better look. The car is only 2000 miles....will post more when I get time to look under.

I did an oil change last night and if I didn't have the plastic splash shield on bottom of car there would be oil droplets in the garage from this "LEAK". Patience gone and done.

My worst tuned two stroke old power sport beater motor is dryer than this thing. I think we are long past any residue leftover from manufacturer as previously suggested by service department. Back to dealer.

I'd skip the dealer this time and complain directly to Mazda, you've been through enough of this nonsense.

We're looking at possible sub zero temperatures in the next week, can't wait to see what I find under there this coming spring.

That's exactly what I'm seeing..
 
Without removing all the covers and lifting the car, its hard to tell where the source may be.
the oil pan seems cleaner....oil filter is original japan made and everything is clean near it and the oil plug.
Could be from the rear/upper bolt/s of the timing chain cover. Since there is tsb on the timing cover (even though it was for 2016/7) seem close bet. Will have to go to the dealer to inspect it and give opinion with all the informartion available now.

Ideally, they should put a dye in the engine oil, have you drive for a few hundred miles then come back and they should make a determination as to where it's coming from.
 
That does look like it puts it in timing chain cover area but could simply be oil pan gasket.

In my current stable my 12 year old '07 G35x approaching 100K miles is arid when it comes to anything related to a gasket weep from top to bottom. I had to get over 20 years in my old '96 5.0L Explorer to get at oil leak levels my CX-5 currently has.

Hopefully yours is not too invasive to get to root cause. I have a feeling mine is going to be engine/AT extraction level but I am fine with that if issue is fixed at this point.
 
Could be. Had a second look and it seems where the block and oil pan are attaching to be more oily spot but since there is opening space thrugh the wheelarch it could also be the air and gravity spreading the oil around.

Hopefully its the oil pan seal only.....wouldnt like it to have half of the engine aux parts taken apart just to change the timing cover seal. Will post more when I have new information to report.
