Hi all I am opening a new thread in which we can discuss fuel economy of the Mazda 2 and what did you do to increase fuel economy.
Please post you car's information in this order :).

Type: Mazda 2 (US or EU) or Demio (Japan)
Year: when it was manufacured or registered
Engine: 1.3 or 1.5
Transmission: auto or manual:
Type of fuel: e.g 87 or 91 octane ect.
Mileage: how much miles or kilometers done between fill ups.
Fuel consumption: Use MPG as state whether it is the US or imperial or km/L

I hope to see a good number of contributions :)

Thanks

2014 DE Mazda2 -- Canadian model
1.5L DOHC engine, 5MT transmission
87 octane gas when stock / 91 octane gas now because of Dynotronics ECU tune

Back when the car was stock, I was generally getting somewhere between 7.5 - 8L/100km. Since the Dynotronics tune, however, the average gas mileage has improved to 7 - 7.5L/100km. Not a huge improvement by any means, but it is something, and I will add that the car drives a lot better with the improved power as well.

One key issue that I found with the Mazda2 is, regardless of whether it was stock or ECU-tuned, the engine seems to disproportionally drink through a LOT of gas when it idles.

2014 Mazda 2 Sport American model
1.5L DOHC engine bone stock, 5MT transmission
205/50 15 tires on factory rims.
87 100% gasoline
259.2 miles on 8.78 gallons
100% highway: 25% at 80MPH, 25% at 75MPH, 50% at 65MPH (different route back).
And, all in the same day.

I log 0.7L an hour idle usually.. AC raises it to 1.2L

But then, it's summertime now and I don't idle a lot in the warm months.

Make me do the math.. Puuuu
29.52 mpg, I'm guestimating US gallons?
That's about what epa gives for city mileage.... It's that 75 and 80 mph that hurt... This car really needs a sixth "highway cruise" gear...
Car gets decent mileage at 65 mph (100-110kmph) but nothing spectacular..

I'm planning a partial grill block and belly pan, see if that helps the aero drag at higher speeds... Not going a full basjoos aerocivic (yet) but I'm curious how much some basic mods can help...
