Bought a new little fishing boat to tow behind CX-5

Just need to make sure I outfit boat with the essentials.

Yes, beer holders and a cooler should complete the really important stuff.

Then you can waste your money on things like bilge pumps, depth sounders and life jackets. :D

Don't forget the lights. Be like me and say I won't stay out after dark, and then the salmon start biting. Don't forget the downriggers too. It never ends LOL. A boat is a hole in the water you pour money into.
Don

Even though that boat is small, it gets the job done. A buddy of mine has a 17' V with an old Mercury on it and still hauls 3 300lbs guys at 25mph up stream. Haha.

As for hole in the water, that pertains to any water craft. Loved my jet ski experience, but too much money.

Holy cow! Does he hang out with NFL linebackers?

Edit: Just checked, NFL linebackers only average ~245 pounds!

Sorry.... didn't get any pics hooked up to CX... it was raining a pretty good clip.
I will get some though. That Suzuki is one sweet motor though.. it just purrs at an idle and is dead quiet. It seems be a "very" well engineered motor. It has electric start with recoil backup as well as power tilt/trim. Pretty much a fully decked 20HP.
Dealer had it in a small tank behind boat to go over operation after getting all paperwork out of the way.
For WA residents I bought from Master Marine Services in Mt Vernon. Very positive transaction.
The motor does have a very specific break-in routine that spans 10 hours at different loads and throttle limits. A 20 hour oil/filter change and then each 100 hours thereafter.
I thought you mentioned earlier that this Suzuki motor has "battery-less" electronic fuel injection. But it does need a battery for other things?

Personally not a boat person. But I envy you having a boat with family members and friends cruising and fishing on the lake! (yes)

Congrats and enjoy!

I once had a 12' semi-vhull /w 7.5 motor for fishing. It was a lot of fun. Learned a few lessons:
o Practice removing prop and brass shank before going out, take spare brass shanks cause you will shear one when prop hits something.
o Take a spare set of clothes in sealed plastic bag, cause someone will tip boat eventually and send you over the side.
o Be careful, unintended things seem to happen launching a boat.
o Use parking brake when launching and do not dunk your diff if AWD.
o Double check motor mount before launching, or motor could end up in lake.
o Don't forget you are towing a boat when on the road, its easy to do.

Some good tips!!!

I'll have to look into the spare brass shanks.

Motor is actually bolted to transom in addition to the motor mounts. I have a lock on order as that motor outside is like cash flapping in the wind.

I am going to have an electric motor on there as well for trolling and backup

I'll try to get some pics on maiden voyage next Saturday. I have to work on the 10 hour engine break-in. Got my depth sounder wired up today. I just went with a basic Lowrance for now.

ok... not that fancy :)

Ended up towing it behind the Explorer... didn't want immerse CX-5 in semi-salt water yet. :)

35 mile ride yesterday... only on plane a little bit so fuel economy could be better but still only burned shy of two gallons of gas. 2/3 throttle gets around 20MPH so close to 30MPH at full throttle is probably doable. Just a few pics... a little cooler yesterday than I expected. We were out for about 5 hours. The Suzuki is an awesome little motor and boat has lots of room.

That looks like fun.

Here are weights:

• Trailer 250 lbs

• Boat 285 lbs (Rated Occupant/Cargo Capacity 1020 lbs)

•*Motor ~110lbs

One last thing.. I don't claim to be a boat expert in any way but my dad bought a Lund back in '73 or '74 and still uses it to this day. This was a primary reason I bought one for myself. I've also had half a dozen anonymous people come up to me and basically say.. "really nice boat... you bought a lifetime quality boat". It has a lifetime warranty on the seams and panels.

EDIT: No claim for it to be the cheapest aluminum boat but one you will hand down to another generation.

Took it out on Lake Easton on Tuesday. On a side note... had CX-5 in one of those one wheel up situations today out in the forest. I wish I had caught a picture.

EDIT: I'll fix the sideways pics... dang iPhone
