Look at roof strength too...

CX-5 - Peak force 18,209 lbs
RAV4 - Peak force 17,575 lbs
Rogue - Peak force 17,189 lbs
CRV - Peak force 17,159 lbs
Santa Fe - Peak force 16,982 lbs
Impreza - Peak force 15,525 lbs

A few years ago I read that the cx-5 actually broke the machine that tested that.

This may explain why our CX-5 and Mazda6 seemed "tight" in its frame build as compared to my old BMW and Volkswagen cars which used heavier grade metals on panels and had a solid thump closing doors BUT the frame would creak on inclines. Not plastics but the actual metal frame. Our skyactiv cars seem very rigid yet light. No creaking on inclines and ramps like a parking garage turnpike. Those numbers reflect and reinforce my thoughts as not the plecebo effect.

So we're paying a premium of better chassis, steering/suspension tuning, and stronger frame to name a few.

Is the ranking order from the IIHS or from Motor Trend?
The ranking is from Motor Trend. IIHS lists cars only in the catagories and there is no ranking order in the same catagory.
