2013~2016 CX-5 Reverse Trigger Wire for aftermarket headunit

I know I can run a wire from the backup lights themselves, but before doing that, I thought I would explore whether there is anywhere in the cabin, hopefully around the dash or kick-plate area, to get either a +/- trigger when in reverse.

A search yielded answers for the 3 and 6, and also letting the PAC audio adapter provide it from the can-bus. I don't need most of what the PAC adapter provides, such as integration with the Bose system.

Typically you can find it in the kicks as well. In most cars that wire will run from the front to the back. Given that I know that by the time it goes into the radio it is data this may change due to the rear BCM which I would assume it runs into.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering the same, considering the rear BCM.
If I have to go all the way back there, I might as well just grab the lamp wire itself. I have a manual transmission, but I suppose there is not a switch for the reverse lights, rather data from the transmission?

I found the Mazda instructions for the OEM backup sensors. The instructions direct the installer to tap into the rear BCM for the reverse signal for that system, so I will do it for what the Pioneer needs also.

I think it is a safe bet. As with most cars to save weight and complication (lol) our nice analog signals have to go digital.

I've been searching for a reverse signal within close proximity to the stock harness. I came across these links which suggest it's the pin 1M:

2) from another thread here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=210242&d=1425421132

3) a thread showing signal reading on the same pin in a Mazda6. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/show...sensor-wire-found-looking-for-VSS-wire-anyone

Can anyone confirm that 1M is the reverse signal in CX5?

Right, it is an old dog, new trick thing. I bought a 25' spool of 18AWG wire and ran it to the headunit's purple trigger wire. I used all but about a foot of it too.

Trigger wire (purple) military spliced to reverse lamp (+) wire

oran9e, as silvercoat indicates, I think everything analog for a reverse wire remains aft in the CX-5

I am a bif fan of the direct method. Which always works. I bit of extra work but luckily if you switch your stereo out in the future it is already done.

I checked that pin on a cx5 2013 but I got no signal.
How did you solve it?

Specifically for the 2016 Mazda CX-5, I've found the only solution is to direct-wire or use the PAC harness. I probed every pin while shifting from reverse to neutral, and didn't see a trigger in either of the two larger connectors that are behind (and connect to) the original radio.

Me Too for a cx5 2013. I finally got signal using PAC

if I did help you, please hit "thanks" button
