So yesterday while driving home from work going up a slight incline and putting a load on the engine, I felt a few slight misses. I think it may have been just a bit of condensation in the gas as I put some HEET in it and a bottle of Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner in it and hasn't done it since. However, I pulled a plug out and noticed it is pretty black and figured it's time to put some new plugs in. Has anyone priced out these plugs?! Holy lord, $36.89/piece though Mazda. Cross-referenced the number and per the parts guy at local Mazda dealer, they are NGK. So went to NGK online and ordered a set for $56.36 shipped to my door. Absolutely unbelievable Mazda would charge 3x what they cost. No wonder why no one likes to go to dealer anymore!! I will say, if anybody has to do this, it is literally the easiest car I have ever worked on to put plugs in. You can do it from start to finish in 5 minutes total for all 4 plugs.

Check out the CX-5 forum about these spark plugs. The ones Mazda uses OEM are expensive (but in fairness are changed every 75k miles so... are they really?) and the word on the street is they are used to sense early knock and a few other things by the ECU. I know NGK makes a set that should in theory work, but I would stick with OEM on this one. Best of luck to you!

The parts fella at my local Mazda dealer said that the plugs are actually made by NGK and actually even gave me the number from NGK. So I'm confident it will all be good.
