Hi Everyone.. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I have a CX5 touring, bought new, 25k, 16 months old, live upstate NY, mixed driving conditions (currently snow and ice) and I drive about 300 miles a week.
There is a loud clunking sound when I drive first thing coming from the rear wheels, normally I will feel this on the steering wheel. This happens within the first 50 ft or so. Doesn't seem to matter if I move off sharply or slowly. If I brake hard then pull away (the second time) the clunk will usually disappear, however if I brake softly and pull away (second time) the clunk will still be there. This has also had a few times at a junction after 6 miles of driving. I have never noticed it when the car is in motion, only when pulling away from stationery. I have pumped the brake pedal several times before pulling away and this didn't help. The problem is getting progressively worse. After stop/start driving the clunk will disappear.
I use my hand brake when parking. I swapped my wheels/tires for the winter combo over this weekend and I couldn't see any excessive pad wear or rotor scaring. The lug nuts were also correctly torqued.
On my 20k service the Syracuse dealer noted that the 'specialist' experienced the same problem but said there was little they could do. Claiming that some cars will do this. I have never experienced this with any of the cars that I've owned. I have booked my car in with the Rochester dealer for the 25k service and have told them of this problem.
I haven't seen any s/b bulletins on this issue.
Also, I made a post about this 'clunking noise' a while ago, thinking the problem was resolved, unfortunately it's not.
I would certainly appreciate any thoughts or comments
Many Thanks....
