2016 CX5 Mirror Tap (Photos)

If you want to tap into your Homelink mirror I have taken a photo to help. It's simple!

Unplug the harness. Simply press down on the pressure clip (on top) and pull out. Plug the red wire tap into the bottom row solid blue (B) (bottom row far right - switched power) and the black tap into the solid black (F) (ground - right side of dead hole).

I just did it for the Escort Passport 8500X50 that's on sale today only - (Amazon) for $139.00.

DBLXX,

A bit off topic, but it looks like you might have access to the 2016 service manual, from the wiring diagram you posted. If so, could you check and see if there is any way to disable the resistance sensing function of whatever computer causes the turns signal to flash, so that LED's can be swapped in for turn signal bulbs without wiring in a bunch of resistors. Thanks.

Here is a helpful info to prevent damaging the plastic tabs of the sensor covers:

How To Remove the Sensor Cover Behind the Windshield

And while you're there, make sure to check the tightness of the auto-diming rearview mirror as mine was loose and there was someone else in this community was having the same problem too.

Still trying to find some info for turn signal flasher module/relay? I'm in same position like you and hoping to do something for LED turn signals without cutting wires and adding resistors. Honestly I do feel they are controlled by one of the computer modules and I don't think we can do too much for Led turn signals unless you're willing to add serial resistors.

You might PM Kedis82ZE8 who seems to have a lot of servicing info on CX-5 and has been helping me and forum members many times! (cool)

That is a great deal on an absolutely awesome product! I have two of these and they are two of the best purchases I've ever made! Absolutely tough and reliable with a simple but powerful user interface. Saved my bacon many times, kept my insurance rates low and adds a piece of mind to my traveling pleasure.

A very rare product that is this well designed and thought out.

Hey Mike-

I nabbed 10 of the 8500's. 1 for myself and 9 to give as gifts to colleagues.

What do you think of the new GPS Escorts, the 9500 versus the 8500.

Taking in consideration I got the 8500 for $139 versus the other high end escorts which Hoover around $399 to $699.

Well, I don't need the GPS feature of the 9500 (or want it) so, for me they are equivalent. I paid around $300 apiece and considered that a value for what they provide. You're going to have some very pleased colleagues!

Great deal. I used to have it until my Evo got stolen but later found. The thieves actually posted the Escort for sale on Craigslist. I new it was mine because of the Velcro I put on it and they did not have the chord. I fished the chord through the dash and they apparently couldnt pull it out. I posted the add in the Evo forums and they deleted it from Craigslist soon after. Turns out they were Evo forum members. I should have contacted them to “purchase” it before making the forum aware...

Since that time i got a Valentine 1 and today use it on the CX-5. I have it hardwired and hanging right below the mirror. You can probably use it with the Escort as well.

If somebody could tell me where to buy a set of PRINTED genuine 2016 CX-5 Service Manuals, I'd be happy to help you out.

I've been searching and can't find anything. My last car was a 2002 CRV, & I bought the Honda Service Manuals the year I bought the car, never regretted it.

I have a Redline, with the Smart Cord Live! box and I have installed it above my mirror. I have fabed an aluminum bracket and pushed it up under the sun glass holder metal bracket. No drilling required.

It works great. Found it on CL brand new un-opened, all for $300(!).
Wires were soldered to the mirror's power.

Fellas - the mirror tap took about 17 seconds to plug in and the radar mounts just perfectly !!!

Would this be the mounting bracket and the wire?

Can someone confirm please that the wiring is exactly the same on a North American 2017GT w/Tech? Or did they switch the wires/colors around?

Thanks!

I think the colors are switched in a 2017 and its purple instead of blue. I just tapped my mirror to install a dash cam and I had to find the right one to make it turn off with the ignition. I can take a picture later for you.

To get switched power tap the solid black and the one closest to the driver (when the plug is plugged in).
