Replacing the NV-8110

Hey folks.

So I've had my 5 for just over 3 years now, and it's been fantastic. What hasn't been fantastic is the built in SatNav. Keeps dropping out, so I have to use my phone at the same time to have a backup if I'm going somewhere I'm unsure about.

I'd quite like to replace the unit, and get a new Pioneer deck or something with AppleCar on it. But, speaking to a guy at Halfords, he wondered if this would be possible, as it seems very built in.

So has anyone done similar? Or am I onto plums?

You absolutely can replace your factory head unit with something aftermarket. There are several sources of good audio (and nav!) units out there. Check out Crutchfield for a good start, they will often discount the install kit (which includes the faceplate you will need for the new stereo to "blend" in with the dash) if you also buy the new stereo from them. Wow, amazing! Thanks for the replies folks. Need to find someone as helpful and similar in the UK as Crutchfield, but I'll let you know how I get on.
