Rear Liftgate Locking Issue?

A few years back I read about the CX 5 having issues with the rear liftgate not locking properly....even with the key fob.

It didn't concern me then but now I own a 2016 CX5 and have noticed that basically it never locks! I can come up to the vehicle without the fob (2 blocks away) and the doors are locked but the rear liftgate is not! Yikes.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem....

[SUP][/SUP]This is covered in your manual. Lock the vehicle and place the wireless key away from the vehicle (at least 3 feet) walk up and open it. It will not.

This is a convenience feature, if the system detects the key is in range it will automatically unlock the hatch when the button is depressed.

Edit, I noticed you already tried it without your key. But this doesn't sound right to me. Ours locks and stays locked. And won't open without the fob.
