My 2002.5 P5 AwesomeSauce build thread

Been a while since I last updated this thread. Been getting a lot done and wanted to do a big update. First things first, took the steering rack off and started the depower process!

Got the pinion welded to remove the "slop"

Painted the rack and crimped all the hoses to prevent dust and nastiness from getting inside the rack.

I also started to unloom the harness and remove plugs that are no longer being used. Then started re-wrapping it again

Also decided to go with a different ignition setup. Toyota 1ZZ-FE COP's! Harness for the coils are already made and took me a few hours.....

Great work there! Well done.

Can the 1ZZ-FE coils be made to work with the OEM ignition system?

Yes they can! How to exactly though, not quite sure. I wiring these into a haltech ecu so I dont have to go through the headache of figuring out how they would work on OEM ecu.

There is a thread on the fourm for theses coils and how to wire them.

Yeah but I only needed to find out which wire was power, ground and trigger on the toyota COP's and the OEM wiring. More work is involved to get these working with OEM ecu I think....

Same process with oem, the power and ground are the same color wires on both oem coil plugs leaving just the trigger, 1 and 4 go together and 2 and 3 go together, the coils will still work as a waste spark setup.

Have you converted to the 1ZZ-FE coils JDM323J48?

Searched but was unsuccessful in finding this thread.

I have successfully tested and setup is ready to fit with engine/trans swap.

Cheers mate. Appreciate it. I'll put this on the to do list. Definitely something I want to do.
I'm not sure I understand 100% how it's done, but I'm gonna do it! (2thumbs)

Any hints re wiring diagram, colours etc? Would be great to get some hints from guys who have done the conversion.

Sure does. Thanks for that MAMP.
BTW, love your can man! Looks fantastic, and my SP20 will (someday) be a little brother to your P5! (drinks).
I'd like to have mine lowered like yours, but it's illegal to be that low in AUS, and the PoPo here love to target young drivers, so I will be staying at a legal height (for now).

Sure thing man. Haha, thanks for the kind words! That sucks they have laws like that in AUS.

Crappy pic, but the engine is almost done. Double checked my camshaft shim clearances and all the intake side clearances are way off. Glad I double checked! Got 5 of the clearances back in spec and gonna head to the junkyard to get more shims to measure.

Old valve cover for now. A few pieces were sent off to get powder coated.

New Inner tie rods and outer tie rod ends and bellows loosely installed. Going to fully tighten them once the rack is installed back into the car.
