Clutch switch/cruise control problems

My cruise control recently cut out. At first i attributed it to the LED tail light bulbs I was using but after installing load resistors with no change, it had to be something else. The other day my friend drove my car for the first time and accidentally tried to start it without the clutch depressed and had it start for him. At first confused, I've come to the following conclusions.

Cruise control shouldnt work with the clutch applied. It doesnt work at all.
The engine shouldnt start without the clutch applied. It does with or without.
The ECU seems to think the clutch is always applied.

If someone could confirm my logic and also help me to distinguish between the clutch switches that would be much appreciated. There's one that's activated when the clutch is out and one activated when the clutch is in. Which one is the cruise cut off and which is the neutral start safety? There's a visible wiring harness on the front one that i unplugged without affecting the car's starting ability at all. I didnt try setting cruise with this unplugged. It would make sense for them both to be the back switch but before i start buying replacement parts I'd like to be sure.

Thanks
Jack
