Last August I replaced the instrument cluster illumination bulbs with new ones. I thought the smaller buls were #74s. Seemed to fit a little tight, but appeared to work okay.
When I turned on the lights a couple of weeks ago, I noticed the upper half of the tach was dark. So, today I pulled the cluster. When I removed the socket, there wasn't any bulb in it. Shook the bulb out and put it back in. Fits tight and really didn't seat right. Stuck it in the cluster only to hear the other #74 pop out. So, off the the auto store. Found out the the #2723 is the correct bulb. The #74s expand the socket slightly, causing it to push the bulb out after enough vibration.
So, it should all be good now.
